Ruth Brown

Ruth Brown ( born January 30, 1928 in Portsmouth, Virginia, born Ruth Weston, † November 17, 2006 in Las Vegas, Nevada) was one of the most popular American rhythm-and - blues singers of the 1950s.

Life

She sang in various church choirs early, saddled later but, contrary to the wishes of her father, to secular music around. In 1945 she met the trumpeter Jimmy Brown, whom she married shortly thereafter. In an appearance at New York's Apollo Theater, she was discovered when she recited a song by Bing Crosby.
