Ruth Foster

Ruth Foster ( born January 29, 1920 in Cincinnati, Ohio; † 12 May 2012) was an American actress.

Life

Ruth Foster began her artistic career as a dancer. She has won the first prize at age 12 in an aligned from the Shubert Theatre on Broadway in New York City Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers - dance competition. She danced first with various touring dance theater groups; later she received a contract as a dancer and showgirl in the Latin Quarter Show.

After several years as a dancer, she moved on to acting. A recurring series role was from 1962 to 1964 as Miss Fleming in the doctor's series Ben Casey. Her most famous role was from 1974 to 1983 as Mrs. Melinda Foster in the American television series Ugly Betty. She embodied therein in over 60 episodes, the role of the owner of the post office in Walnut Grove. She played this role in 1983 and 1984 in two television films about the series Little House - The end of Walnut Grove (1983) and Little House - Where is Rose ( 1984), filmed as a successor to the movies series.

She also had smaller roles and guest episode roles in several American television series, including The Spike Jones Show (1957 ), Dimension 5 (1966 ), Bonanza (1969) and Highway to Heaven (1989).
