Ruth Hieronymi

Ruth Hieronymi, ( born November 8, 1947 in Bonn ) is a German politician of the CDU and from 1999 to 2009 Member of the European Parliament. On 2 December 2009 she was elected as the new Chairman of the WDR Broadcasting Council as the successor of the retired for reasons of age Reinhard Gratz by the Broadcasting with 30 of 42 votes.

Hieronymi studied history and sociology at the University of Cologne and graduated in 1977 with a Master's exam (MA ) from. In 1971 she joined the CDU. From 1978 to 1981 she was Deputy Head of the CDU Federal office from 1975 to 1990 Member of the Council of the City of Bonn. From 1985 to 1999 she was a member of the Landtag of North Rhine -Westphalia, 1990-1997 deputy chairman of the CDU parliamentary group NRW, also 1990-1999 spokeswoman of the CDU faction in the Main Committee. She was a member of the Culture Committee of the European Parliament, alternate member of the Committee on Employment. Focus of her work in the European Parliament was the Culture Committee: Rapporteur of the EU MEDIA Plus program, education policy and youth policy. Key activities in the constituency Middle Rhine were telecommunications, transport policy and consumer protection.

Hieronymi is married and has two children.
