Ruth Roland

Ruth Roland ( born August 26, 1892 in San Francisco, California, † September 22, 1937 in Hollywood, California ) was an American film and stage actress and film producer.

Life

Ruth Roland was born the daughter of a theater manager and a theater actress at an early stage with the medium of drama in contact and was already at the age of three and a half years on the stage. After the early divorce of the parents, she grew up with her mother until her death in 1900, when Ruth Roland was only eight years old. The custody of an aunt then took.

As a child she was in vaudeville productions on stage and was discovered during one of her performances, which took place in New York City, directed by Sidney Olcott and the Kalem Company. He recognized the potential of the then 16 -year-old Ruth Roland, and engaged her for his short film produced in 1908, The Scarlet Letter. Roland was very courted by the producers of that time, including Mack Sennett, so that their weekly salary was increased from an initial $ 25 to $ 100.

Ruth Roland stood until 1927 in 211 silent films in front of the camera, from which they also produced four pieces 1919-1922 with its own established company, Ruth Roland Serials itself. Mid-1920s, Roland went to the theater and increasingly played vaudeville. 1930 was also able to get a lead role in a sound film her in the novel adaptation Reno, but the film was not well received by the critics. When she was seen in the 1935 film Mystery From Nine to Nine also, she got only a minor role. In addition to her film career Roland had become rich by speculation in the property sector.

She was married twice. In May 1917, she appeared with Lionel T. Kent to the altar; divorce followed two years later, 1919. Roland was in a second marriage from 1929 until her death with actor Ben Bard ( 1893-1974 ) married. Both marriages were childless. Retired and largely forgotten by the public Ruth Roland died in September 1937, at the age of only 45 years, from cancer.

Today is dedicated to her a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
