Rutka Laskier

Rutka Laskier (* 1929 in the Free City of Danzig, † 1943) grew up as a Jewish girl in Gdansk and bendin and was known for her 2006 diary publicized over 85 days in the spring of 1943 in the ghetto in Będzin in occupied Poland. The young person is likely (according to surviving family members and witnesses ) after the deportation from this ghetto at 45 km away extermination camp Auschwitz -Birkenau was murdered by the German occupiers. Diary

Rutka Laskier (today Gdańsk) was born in 1929 in the Free City of Danzig. My parents' house - Yaacov Laskier was a bank clerk in Gdansk and part owner of a flour mill in Będzin - offered her bourgeois prosperity. Rutka had a little brother born in 1937, Henius ( pet form of Joachim ). She went to Gdansk on the Fürstenberg -Gymnasium, a secular Jewish community school. After the annexation of Danzig by the German Empire at the beginning of World War 2 Rutkas family was expelled at the same time as all other families with a Jewish background from the city.

In Będzin she became friends with, among others Stanisław Sapinska, the daughter of the homeowner, which kept the diary over 60 years and it gave then the 1949 Israel-born half-sister Zahava Scherz ( born Laskier ).

Rutka recalls in the diary of a day on the football field in the stadium of the Jewish sports club Hakoah where the Germans there first names a selection. 6 August 1942 managed to escape.

The forced resettlement of the family in March in the closed ghetto in the district Kamionka, the " worst neighborhood " of bendin is the last known incision in her life. The more life reveals itself only eyewitness. Her father still reported by the separation from his family on the ramp at Birkenau.
