Ruud Krol

Ruud Krol (born 24 March 1949 in Amsterdam, Rudolf Jozef Krol actually ) is a Dutch football coach and former football player of Polish descent.

Playing career

Clubs

Ruud Krol was in the 1970s one of the best defensive players in the world. At first, he played at the position of left-back, but later moved into the middle. Krols career began in 1968 at Ajax Amsterdam. For the second year he replaced the migrated Theo van Duivenbode and became a regular player. In twelve years at Ajax he won with the team six Dutch Championships, four times the KNVB Cup, three times European Champion Clubs' Cup, the European Supercup twice and once the World Cup. 1980 returned Krol the Netherlands the back and moved to Canada at the Vancouver Whitecaps. After just one season of defensive players returned to Europe and played from then on for Napoli in Serie A. To a title it was not enough during this time. Third period abroad in 1984 of AS Cannes. For the French, Krol ended his career after two seasons.

National

Krol was a member of the Dutch national team since 1969. His greatest successes were the Vice World Championships at the World Cup 1974 in Germany and at the 1978 World Cup in Argentina. He twice took part in the European Championships (1976 and 1980). Following the resignation of Rob Rensenbrink in the national team in 1978, he was the captain of the national team.

Krol played 83 matches, scoring four goals. From 1979 to 2000 he was the most capped player in his country.

Coaching career

1986 ended Krol his career and became a coach. 1989 was his first coach station KV Mechelen in Belgium. After just one season he moved to ihne Servette Geneva in Switzerland. There, too, he was only one year's activity before retiring again in 1991. After a three year break Krol took over the Egyptian club Az- Zamalik, he trained for the next five years. There he celebrated the first successes as a coach and led the team in 1996 to win the CAF Champions League. From 1995 to 1996 Krol was on the coaching staff of the Egyptian national football team and looked after them at the Africa Cup of 1996. After a long time in Egypt Krol was between 1999 and 2002 assistant coach of the Netherlands and was then assistant coach at Ajax Amsterdam. In 2006 he went to France, where the French club AC Ajaccio hired him. After a year he moved back to Az- Zamalik. This time parted ways quickly and in 2008 the former Dutch national team went to South Africa to Orlando Pirates to train.
