Ruud van Empel

Ruud van Empel, actually Rudolph Franciscus Maria van Empel, ( born November 21, 1958 in Breda ) is a Dutch photo artist.

Life

Van Empel studied graphic design from 1976 to 1981 at the Academy of Fine Arts Sint Joost Breda. After working briefly as a designer, he moved to video and photography, and designed theater decor and movie posters and worked on the artistic design for various TV and film productions. Following this she worked as a photographic artist: 1995 to 2001, the series The Office, 1999-2002 Study for Women, 2003 Study in Green and 2005-2010 World, Moon, Venus. A fair presentation of the TZR Galerie Kai Brückner 2005 in New York was the start of his international breakthrough. As a result, there was a permanent gallery representation in New York (from 2006 Stefan Stux Gallery) and Utrecht (from 2009 Flatland Gallery ), as well as to his first museum exhibition as an artist who curated by Deborah Klotchko exhibition Picturing Eden at the George Eastman House Rochester. The most popular series, 'World ', often shows dark-skinned children in a tropical environment. The photos were taken in complex digital photo editing.

Van Empel lives in Amsterdam.

In 1991 he was awarded the St. Joost Price, 1993 Charlotte Köhler prize and in 2001 the NH Werkman price.

In addition to exhibitions in his tribe Galleries ( by 2010 TZR Galerie Kai Brückner, until today Stux Gallery in New York and Flatland Gallery, Utrecht), he had including a solo exhibition at the Kunstverein Hall (2008), in the Museum de Valkhof in Nijemegen and Noord Brabants Museum in 's-Hertogenbosch. 2011 launched a retrospective at the Groninger Museum, where he had a solo exhibition as a graphic designer in 1999. This touring until today ( May 2013) by various museums in the world, such as the Museum of Photographic Arts in San Diego.
