Ruvo di Puglia

Ruvo di Puglia is a southern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 25 594 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Bari, in the Puglia region. The municipality is located in the middle of the Murgia, a karst landscape of southern Italy, about 30 kilometers west of Bari. It borders the province of Barletta -Andria -Trani.

Greek settlements existed in this area since the 9th century BC. Coins from the 3rd century BC suggest named Rhyps or Rhybasteion attention to the village. The Romans built here on the Via Traiana a fortress. Previously was already a changing station under the name Rubi known. In the Middle Ages the settlement came into the possession of the Counts of Conversano.
