Ruza, Ruzsky District, Moscow Oblast

Rusa (Russian Руза ) is a Russian town in Moscow Oblast. The 13,495 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ) scoring village is located 110 km west of Moscow river of the same Rusa ( a tributary of the Moskva River ). The nearest railway station is located in the Tutschkowo, 22 km away.

The town hosts several food companies (large butcher, dairy, liquor factory), as well as a textile and a furniture factory. 20 km south of the city, in the settlement Dorochowo, is a plant of the company LG Electronics ( 2007).

Rusa, whose existence is guaranteed already for the 14th century, originally belonged to the Principality of Zvenigorod. At the beginning of the 16th century, the city was part of the Principality of Moscow. Rusa was at times a fortress city - remains of the walls have been preserved to this day. 1618, the town was besieged by the Polish-Lithuanian army. During the Battle of Moscow in World War II Rusa was temporarily occupied by the German Wehrmacht.

In the city there are several churches from the 18th and 19th centuries and a local history museum. Because of its picturesque surroundings, the city is a popular holiday resort.
