RV park

A motorhome parking space is a publicly accessible parking space for residential and mobile homes, where you may stay one or more nights in the vehicle. On some of these pitches Caravans teams are allowed.

Under RV travelers is colloquially sometimes referred to a not expressly designated as RV parking space, but more general than about respectful suitable parking respected as a " parking space ".

Differences about camping

Motorhome pitches are usually designed only for short-term (two to three nights) of recreational vehicles that have a closed sewer system and an on-board toilet ( autonomous vehicles). Therefore, an RV parking space usually differs in the following points from a campsite:

  • The arrival or departure may at any time, even at night, take place.
  • There is no reception, where you would have to log on or off.
  • Sanitary facilities not, or at least only partially available.
  • The construction of tents, awnings is also not allowed.
  • The stay is limited to a few nights, seasonal or permanent camping is not permitted.
  • Lower room rates, partially free.

For fee-based courses, the fee is usually payable at a ticket machine or a checkout of trust, rarely with a cashier who comes to certain times of the square. In free parking spaces offered additional services such as fresh water supply or power connection usually are chargeable. Often ( "donation" ) is also also asked for a voluntary contribution to costs.

Equipment

In the simplest case an RV parking space is completely normal car park, where by appropriate signs or poster to spend the night is allowed in mobile homes. Such simple spaces usually may also be used by other types of vehicles such as cars or coaches.

In general, however, include at least one supply and disposal station for fresh and waste water and waste containers to the basic equipment of a parking space today. Optional are increasingly available (usually münzgesteuerte ) power connectors, and at least a portion of the existing parking spaces reserved exclusively for motorhomes. This basic configuration can be extended, for example by information boards, picnic areas, picnic benches and public toilets.

Once in addition also the showers or washbasins are available, it is called a comfort pitch. Here blur the differences to the regular camp sites more and more. In addition, more and more campsite operators to move to offer always accessible parking on its premises.

Legal situation

Motorhome pitches meet only in a few exceptional cases, the requirements that are placed on campsites in the country. They are therefore from a legal perspective usually no campsites, but parking in the sense of locally applicable road traffic legislation. Therefore, they may be used as a rule, only vehicles that are equipped with a closed sewer system and an on-board toilet.

Germany

Usually, the combination of characters is 314 ( parking lot) and the additional symbol 1048-17 (Only for RV ) is used (see right), often supplemented by an additional character for a limited period for the designation of a parking space in Germany. Parking areas, which are marked with these signs combination, may be used in accordance with traffic regulations exclusively of mobile homes. Abroad similar traffic signs are used in accordance with the applicable traffic law.

In most parking spaces are dedicated for parking areas on which the competent authority - or in private places of the owner - a certain type of special use, namely the night in mobile homes permitted under certain conditions. It can in addition also other types of special use, such as grilling or stay in caravans, be allowed. Are there any other special types of use permitted, as this is usually regulated by an unhinged on Pitch statutes.

Otherwise, only count the stay in vehicles on public roads and parking lots as a permissible public use in Germany, where it is necessary to restore the ability to drive. This also applies to mobile homes. Here, all devices must be used inside the vehicle, not a "camping -like behavior " ( construction of chairs and tables, barbecue or the extension of the awning ) may however be practiced outside the vehicle. Of course, local parking regulations must be observed. Moreover, should the threat of unfitness to drive, for example due to fatigue after a long journey, be the occasion for the exploration of the parking lot. If the unfit to drive after parking the vehicle - for example, by alcohol - brought about, then there is not a valid public use more.

Austria

In Austria analogous rules apply, with the exception of the federal state of Tyrol. In Tyrol the stay is permitted in camping vehicles only officially approved campsites. Campground operators may, however, designate with the approval of the competent municipal administration up to ten percent of their floor space as so-called "Auto Camp -Platz", if they are visibly separated from the regular campground. Auto-camp courses are available outside the opening times of the campsite and may not be occupied by permanent campers, that are similar to a motor home parking space.

France

In France, spending the night in recreation vehicles on public roads and parking is generally permitted, except in front of listed buildings in conservation areas and on the sea shores. To regulate the nightly parking or still are by the local authorities in large numbers motorhome pitches, often equipped with supply and disposal stations, has been reported (French Aire de stationnement / service Camping-Car ).

Switzerland

In Switzerland, the cantonal governments decide whether motorhome pitches can be set up and that may be stayed in RVs outside regular campsites. As of February 1, 2004, there was a general prohibition on overnight exclusively in the canton of Geneva. In the other cantons, but local governments can impose local bans.

Netherlands

By the end of 2007 there were in the Netherlands a strict overnight ban on public property outside of campgrounds. The expulsion of motorhome pitches by the communities was very limited. However, the relevant law on outdoor recreation (Dutch Wet op de openluchtrecreatie ) occurred in early 2008 repealed. Since then, the local governments have the right to place appropriate arrangements for their territory and expel motorhome pitches.

Many communities have used this change in the law and motorhome pitches set up, but at the same time forbidden to spend the night outside the explicitly designated places. On 24 November 2009 the community Reimerswaal issued last Dutch community overnightstay ban. Thus, what concerns the stay outside of camping and parking lots, in fact, the state of manufactured before 2008.

Rest of Europe

On the establishment of parking spaces and the optionally allowed there special use to decide which local governments generally. For the sleep outside camping or caravan sites in the rest of Europe is a jurisdiction based on the "Restoration of Driving ' largely unknown. Far more often a distinction is made here between parking and special use of public space. As far as areas no local legislations else is usually an overnight use allowed only inside the parked vehicle, as long as the appropriate parking is allowed, there is no special use of public space outside the vehicle and no waste or waste water is left behind. Limitations may result from the conspicuousness and the locally increased incidence of RVs, which can be seen as a rule at the appropriate signage.

History

In May 1983, the climatic health resort of Viechtach allowed in the Bavarian Forest as the first community in Germany motorhomes to spend the night on some public car parks in the city. Originally initiated as a pilot project by the then Transport Director and limited to four months, the offer proved so successful that it was continued until today. Already the pilot brought the Viechtacher economy more than $ 200,000 additional revenue. Numerous other communities followed the example so that there was motorhome pitches already in 71 locations by the end of 1985.

The first Reisemobilhafen, a separate parking space exclusively for campers, was in Rotenburg an der Fulda supported by the local authority, several sponsors as part of a public-private partnership, established and opened in 1991. This place has won several awards. It existed until February 2011 at its original location, but was moved due to the construction of a new shopping center to another location nearby. Also in 1991, opened the first large German city Nuremberg three motorhome pitches and had to install an urban gas station, a supply and waste disposal station.

In the 1980s, he also wrote his first motorhome pitches in Switzerland, in France ( Aire de camping-car stationnement ) and in Italy ( Aree di sosta campers). There are now in Germany, France and Italy each several thousand parking spaces.

Lately discover many operators of marinas, particularly in Scandinavia, the provision of motorhome parking spaces as an additional source of income. Many marinas are ideally suited for this purpose because they are often located in scenic attractive location and have usually already have the infrastructure (for example, sanitation and electricity connections). Moreover, there is on the premises of many marinas large, fixed shelves on which ausgekrante boats are parked in the winter, but they are empty in the season and therefore are well suited as a motorhome parking space.

Since about 2006, several motorhome pitches were established in Sweden, frequently through reallocation of existing parking. Also adopted from the German loanword Ställplats has advocated naturalized and the original designation Husbilsplats largely displaced. In contrast to other countries, caravan combinations are allowed in Sweden on the vast majority of parking spaces.

Acceptance and economic importance

Many places in tourist areas prohibit the night of residential and recreational vehicles in parking lots and refer instead to campsites. However, since many RV travelers are more interested in a spontaneous and short-term stay ( for example, for a city tour followed by a visit to the restaurant ), this is often not accepted. In addition, Campsites are often located outside the urban area.

A study has also shown that RV tourists who stay on a pitch, opposite - camping travelers on average spend more money on overnight accommodation. By the expulsion of motorhome pitches municipalities can therefore not only avoid the uncontrolled sleep of mobile homes on public roads, but also promote the local economy, thereby increasing their own business taxes.

Simple motorhome pitches can be created (for example, in schools, swimming pools and sports halls ) without significant costs on existing, unused parking lots at night. Even where the structural or economic conditions for a regular campsite are not given. And as self-sufficient campers are not directly dependent on existing infrastructure in place, supply and disposal facilities may also at some distance from the parking space, for example at the local sewage treatment plant, are situated.
