RWDM Brussels FC

The RWDM Brussels FC (short: RWDM ) is a Belgian football club from the municipality Molenbeek- Saint-Jean - a part of the Brussels region - which was created in 2002 from the merger of the two clubs RWD Molenbeek and KFC Strombeek. From 2004 /05 the club played four years in the Belgian First Division until he descended into the second Belgian League 2008. Colloquially, the club also De Bondgenoten or / Les Coalisés ( The Allies ) is called.

History

The current club FC Brussels is the result of a long series of mergers and name changes Brussels clubs. The origins date back to the 19th century.

Racing Club de Bruxelles

The Racing Club was founded in 1891 as an athletics club, to which in 1894 joined a football department. In 1895 he was one of the founding members of the Belgian Football Association UBSSA, later KBVB. In 1921 he was given the privilege to call themselves Royal Racing Club de Bruxelles. His colors were black and white.

In the early years of the Belgian Football League Racing Club belonged. It was 1897, 1900, 1901, 1902, 1903 and 1908 champion. After the First World War was over, the best time of the club and he played only in the lower regions of the first or in the second division.

As one of the oldest football clubs in the country Racing held the prestigious root number six of the Belgian Football Association. 1963 merged the club with White Star. A new club with the old name Racing Club de Bruxelles in 1891 was founded in 2005.

White Star

White Star was founded in 1909 by students of the Sint- Boniface Institute in Ixelles. The team played in the colors of the Institute: red and white. To distinguish itself from other teams with the same play clothes, a white star was added - so the club name originated. As White Star Athletic Club, the club became a member of the Football Association and received the master number 47, which the RWDM took over later. In 1922 the name was changed to White Star Woluwe AC, 1935 in Royal White Star AC. At times, he played in the first, but usually in the second division and could not achieve great results.

Racing White

1963 merged Racing Club and White Star Royal Racing White with the master number 47 Racing White reached the first division, was in 1969 in the cup final against Lierse SK and took 1972/73 in the UEFA Cup in part, where in the first round he Portuguese against the team GD CUF Barreiro lost. Daring Molenbeek

The Daring Football Club was founded in 1895 by students and entered 1897 as Daring Club de Bruxelles Belgian Football Association at. Racing White Daring Molenbeek ( RWDM )

Racing White Daring Molenbeek (short: RWDM ) was raised in 1973 from the baptism. As the older Club Racing White joined the successful Daring Molenbeek, the new club had on the root number six waive and started with the student number 47 in the new connection Daring brought also the Oscar Bossaertstadion, which was now called Edmond Machtens Stadium, and his loyal fans.

In the very first season (1973 /74) RWDM was third, thus returning the European Cup. In the following season the team was even masters. From 1973/74 bis 1977/78 RWDM played five times in European competition and remained unbeaten in 14 games. 1976/77, the team placed in the UEFA Cup against Næstved by IF, Wisla Krakow, FC Schalke 04 and Feyenoord Rotterdam and was eliminated in the semifinals by only two draw against Athletic Bilbao. After that RWDM qualified twice (1980 and 1996) for the European Cup, but different in each case in the first round. Sporty it went downhill since the 1980s: RWDM rose in 1984, 1989 and 1998 from the premier league from. Three years after the last descent managed RWDM 2001 again the rise, but the club was relegated after major financial problems in the third league and he finally revoked the license - the club was disbanded and went in 2002 to KFC Strombeek.

KFC Strombeek

After the end of RWDM took over Johan Vermeersch, who had long been active in RWDM, another club, the KFC Strombeek, who now played in Edmond Machtens Stadium. This was a member of the Belgian Football Association KBVB since 1932. After the RWDM had been taken from the KFC Strombeek this and taken over by a new owner, the club was renamed to FC Brussels in 2003. For most fans, this is the successor of the glorious RWDM.

The Brussels FC today

From 2004 /05 on the FC Brussels played four years in the Belgian first division. In the first season of relegation was only narrowly avoided, after that it went to the 9th place 2006 on 13th place (2007) to the second division (2008, 18th place), where the club in the season 2010/11 again plays against relegation.
