Ryan Johnson (ice hockey)

Ryan M. Johnson ( born June 14, 1976 in Thunder Bay, Ontario ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who was most recently with the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League contract. His older brother Greg was also a hockey player in the NHL.

Career

The 1.85 m wide center began his career in the team of the University of North Dakota in the game operation of the National Collegiate Athletic Association before he was selected by the Panthers in the NHL Entry Draft in 1994 to 36th place in the second round.

During the season 1995/96 he moved from college to Team Canada. The 1996/97 season he spent in the farm team of the Panthers, the Carolina Monarchs in the American Hockey League. After two more seasons, he spent mainly in the AHL, Johnson was able to win early in the season 1999/2000 a regular place in the Panthers. Shortly before the trade deadline in March 2000, he was eventually replaced by Mike Sillinger of the Tampa Bay Lightning. After a complete season with the Lightning, he returned to the Panthers - this time Vaclav Prospal was in exchange for the Lightning. Shortly before the end of the season 2002/ 03 he was set up by the Panthers on the waiver list and taken from the St. Louis Blues under contract. After more than four years in St. Louis, he moved to Vancouver in 2008 as a free agent.

In December 2010 he was engaged by the Rockford IceHogs for a try-out. A few days later, Johnson was taken by the Chicago Blackhawks under contract, for which he regularly ran aground until the end of the season 2010/11. In autumn 2011, he completed a try-out with the Detroit Red Wings, but was then no contract offered.
