Ryan McGill

Ryan Clifford McGill ( born February 28, 1969 in Sherwood Park, Alberta ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player and current coach, who played on the position of the defender during his career for the Chicago Blackhawks, Philadelphia Flyers and Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League. Since July 2012, he has been head coach of the Kootenay Ice of the Western Hockey League.

Career

Ryan McGill began his career in 1985 at the Lethbridge Broncos of the Western Hockey League and was active one year for the team. Already there fell on his game hardness and he had therefore many minutes on the penalty bench to settle. In 74 games, he collected 180 penalty minutes. Between 1986 and 1987 he played for the Swift Current Broncos and 1987-1989 for the Medicine Hat Tigers. McGill had been selected at the NHL Entry Draft in 1987 by the Chicago Blackhawks in the second round to 29th position.

He played in 1992 for Chicago and previously at the Saginaw Hawks, Indianapolis Ice, Halifax Citadel, and Hershey Bears. But he brought it to only nine games for the Chicago Blackhawks and went to the Philadelphia Flyers. There he was in the season 1992/93 with 238 penalty minutes in the NHL one of the toughest players in the league. The NHL 1994/95, he finished with the Edmonton Oilers and had to withdraw due to an eye injury from active competition.

The Canadian began his coaching career as an assistant coach after 1996-1998 at the Edmonton Ice and was named after the dismissal of Dave Siciliano head coach. In the following four years after the team was moved to Cranbrook and the Kootenay Ice had assumed name, he worked in the same position. Between 2002 and 2005 he was responsible for the Hartford Wolf Pack and from 2005 to 2007, the Omaha Ak -Sar - Ben Knights. Between 2007 and 2009 he was in the Quad City Flames under contract and remained there without success. In June 2009, he assumed the position of assistant coach with the Calgary Flames. In April 2011, McGill was released in the Flames.

On July 4, 2012, he was again appointed the head coach of the Kootenay Ice of the Western Hockey League.
