Ryan Potulny

Ryan Potulny ( born September 5, 1984 in Grand Forks, North Dakota ) is an American professional ice hockey player who is since July 2011 the Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League under contract on their farm team, the Hershey Bears in the American Hockey League. His older brother Grant is also a professional hockey player.

Career

Ryan Potulny began his career as a hockey player with the Lincoln Stars, for which he was active from 2001 to 2003 in the United States Hockey League. He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 2003 in the third round than a total of 87 players from the Philadelphia Flyers. First, however, the attacker played three years for the University of Minnesota, with whom he won the championship of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association in the 2003/04 season. After his final season at the University of Minnesota Potulny was nominated for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award. Towards the end of the season 2005/ 06 he made his debut in the National Hockey League for the Philadelphia Flyers, for whom he prepared a goal in two games.

From 2006 to 2008 Potulny ran parallel for the Philadelphia Flyers in the NHL as well as their farm team, the Philadelphia Phantoms in the American Hockey League on. For the Phantoms, he scored in the game against the Albany River Rats on 24 April 2008 the 3-2 winning goal after 82:58 minutes in overtime. This was the longest overtime in the history of the AHL. On 6 June 2008 was issued in exchange for Danny Syvret to the Edmonton Oilers, for whom he gave three assists in the 2008 /09 season in eight games. He spent the rest of the season but their AHL farm team in Springfield Falcons. The following season, Potulny was significantly more ice age at the Oilers in the NHL and came in 64 matches is used, where it reached a score of 32 points. In September 2010, he signed as a free agent contract with the Chicago Blackhawks. This put him in the predominantly farm team for the Rockford IceHogs a, in which the attacker was set as a regular force. End of February 2011 gave him the Blackhawks just before the trade deadline in a barter transaction to the Ottawa Senators from that sent him to the farm team to the Binghamton Senators.

July 1, 2011 Potulny signed a contract with the Washington Capitals.

Internationally

Potulny participated with the U.S. National Team at the 2010 World Cup. In six World Cup matches, the attacker scored two goals and two assists.
