Ryan Sweeting

Ryan Sweeting (* July 14, 1987 in Nassau, Bahamas) is an American tennis player.

Life and career

Ryan Sweeting began at the age of six years, to play tennis. At twelve, he moved to the United States to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he lives and trains ever since. In 2002 he took the first time in an international junior tournament, and in 2004 he won his first title. The year 2005 was the most successful as a junior, Sweeting won, among others, the U.S. Open and finished the year as the No. 2 junior world rankings.

After he had set out for the Bahamas in 2005 twice in the Davis Cup and doing a single had been able to win, Ryan Sweeting played from 2006 in men's tournaments. In May 2006, he won his first title in his third Futures tournament as a qualifier. In July 2006 he qualified in Washington for his first ATP tournament. There he met the top 100 player Justin Gimelstob, whom he defeated in straight sets, before he retired in the second round against Arnaud Clément. A month later he succeeded in New Haven qualifying for an ATP tournament, where he lost but already in the first round. His rapid rise into the top 500 of the world tennis rankings within a few months was rewarded with a wildcard for the U.S. Open 2006. There he benefited in the first round of an early task of his opponent Guillermo Coria. In the second round he led against the set at position 26 Olivier Rochus already 2-1 sets, lost the match but in the end still in five sets. The end of 2006 Ryan Sweeting took the U.S. citizenship, for which he took up from now on. In the Davis Cup, he has not yet played but for the United States, but it served as a training partner for some encounters.

End of January 2007 Sweeting defeated the two top 100 players Michael Russell and Simon Greul at the ATP tournament in Delray Beach, but failed to make the quarter-finals. Later in the year he was still for four other U.S. ATP tournaments ( including the U.S. Open ) is a wildcard, but he left respectively in the first round. Otherwise he played this year, mostly tournaments in the ATP Challenger Tour, where in New Orleans, he reached the semi-finals and quarter-finals several and could thus establish itself in the top 300 in the world rankings. In doubles, he could this year even win three Challenger titles, and rose in the world ranking up to rank 145

In the first months of 2008 Ryan Sweeting played in many ATP tournaments in qualifying, and finally succeeded at the Masters tournament in Miami to jump into the main draw. He defeated Filippo Volandri for the first time with a player from the top 50 before he retired to the set at position 18 Juan Mónaco. In the world rankings, he then rose to number 211, his best provisional placement. For the U.S. Open Sweeting got in this year, no wildcard, but he was able to successfully fight through qualifying. In the first round but he then failed to Roko Karanusic. In November 2008, Sweeting scored his biggest success when he by defeating Kristian Pless won his first Challenger singles title in Rimouski.

The year 2009 went successfully: After a semi-final at the Challenger tournament in Nouméa in January 2009 Ryan Sweeting won his second title in February 2009, in Dallas. In the following months, he took up in several U.S. ATP tournaments; partly as a qualifier, some with a wildcard. He was able to reach the Indian Wells Masters second round as he defeated the top 100 player Wayne Odesnik. In Houston, he retired from though in qualifying, but could it in a double with his partner Jesse Levine in the final. There they were but a chance against the Bryan brothers. In July 2009, Ryan Sweeting reached in Los Angeles as a qualifier for the second time this year, the second round of the ATP tournament, and then rose in the rankings on his personal high rank 141 for the U.S. Open, he was like in the years 2006 and 2007, a wild card, but he was defeated in the first round in three short sentences the later quarter-finalists Marin Cilic. The year 2010 began with the just missed qualifying for the Australian Open, followed by a successful title defense at the Challenger tournament in Dallas in February 2010. The following U.S. hard court tournaments he managed to qualify in three of four experiments for the main draw, and reached in Houston with a victory over Evgeny Korolev the second round. In April and May 2010, he played in several Challenger tournaments, and reached here in Savannah a final and two semifinals. As a reward for his recent success he got a wildcard for the French Open, but retired in the first round against Juan Ignacio Chela of. A month later, he failed at Wimbledon in the third qualifying round in five sets to Robert Kendrick, then moved but one of the seven lucky losers into the main draw after. There he lost in four sets against Benjamin Becker. In August 2010, Ryan Sweeting reached in Washington as a qualifier among other things, a victory over the top -50 player Michaël Llodra first time the third round of an ATP tournament. There was then but against the set at position 3 Fernando Verdasco terminus. At the U.S. Open he got like last year, a wild card, and again, he retired in the first round against Ričardas Berankis from. In early 2011 Ryan Sweeting was the first time qualifying for the Australian Open. In the first round, he sat down in three sets against Daniel Gimeno -Traver through, but was then in the second round chance against the world number one Rafael Nadal. Nevertheless, he was thus able to move in for the first time into the top 100 in the world rankings for a short time. In February 2011, Sweeting defeated in Delray Beach as a qualifier Igor Andreev at first and then in the second round to Sam Querrey set at position 3, and thus moved for the first time in the quarter-finals of an ATP tournament. Personal

In September 2013 he became engaged to the U.S. actress Kaley Cuoco. The couple married on 31 December 2013.
