Ryedale

Ryedale is a District in the county of North Yorkshire in England. Administrative center is the city of Malton. Other important towns are Norton -on- Derwent and Pickering.

The district was formed on 1 April 1974 and evolved from a fusion of different authorities. From the East Riding of Yorkshire, these were the Urban District Norton and Norton Rural District, from the North Riding of Yorkshire, the Urban Districts Malton and Pickering and the Rural Districts Flaxton, Helmsley, Kirkbymoorside, Malton and Pickering. In 1996, the district lost almost half of the population, as many villages in the southwest of the new unitary authority of City of York have been added.
