Røykenvik Line

The railway line Jaren Røykenvik, (Norwegian Røykenvikbanen ), was a 6.7 km long railway line in Fylke Oppland in Norway. It runs from the junction station Jaren after Røykenvik on Randsfjord.

The track was a branch line from the Gjøvikbane and was dated 20 December 1900 to November 1957 in operation. Traffic on the line was taken before 1902, the remaining piece was opened to Gjøvik. So Røykenvik was two years northernmost station of the Gjøvikbane.

History

The Røykenvikbane was built following a decision by the Norwegian government in March 1894 primarily for the transportation of wood, but also passengers, it was provided. For the running of trains, among other steam locomotives of the NSB series were 18 used from Norges Statsbaner. From the beginning, there was a stop in Andfossen. As 1930 railcars took over the passenger, was an unofficial stop at Augedalsbakken, about 700 meters north of Brandbu.

Wood was the most important cargo, but there were also cattle and agricultural products transported, and there were post- transport. At times, there was excursion traffic, especially in the summer during the holidays. In winter, skiers came. The trains had connections to the steamship on the edge of the fjord. However, the steamboat traffic was stopped gradually with the further expansion of the railway in Oppland.

Stations and Railway Operations

Brandbu was the only station between the termini. He was unfavorable to the center and then the train was eventually replaced by a bus line to Jaren. Passenger therefore already ended in 1949, while freight traffic was operated until November 1957. Around 800 meters of the track remained after decommissioning as siding to Jaren Andfossen, the rest of the track was dismantled in 1960.

The Røykenvik station was damaged by fire in 1964 and demolished the following year. The engine shed and goods shed remained. The station in Brandbu was demolished in 1964, the goods shed is still preserved as a warehouse. The Fylkesveg 34 is now routed across the former railway station site.
