Þrymr

Thrymr or Thrym ( Old Norse " noise " ) is the literary figure of a jötunn ( giant) from the eponymous song Þrymskviða the Poetic Edda, which belongs to the group of Thor myths.

The content is about the return of the hammer Mjolnir, Thor had robbed the Thrymr. As a prize for obtaining the hammer the giant demands the goddess Freya to wife. Skip to note the gods to the bargain. Thor dressed up as Freyja and contracts with Loki to the fortress of the giant. Thrymrs distrust is scattered by Loki again. His oratory moved Thrymr finally to the hammer of the "bride" - the disguised Thor - to present. Once Thor holds his hammer back in the hands, he immediately kills all giants, which he can get hold of. Also Thrymr slain by him.

The figure Thrymrs appears in Old Norse literature otherwise only in the enumeration of the giants in the Þulur. For this reason, the giant is considered a creation of the anonymous poet of Þrymskviða without anchoring in the popular mythology.
