Ryōhei Hirose

Ryohei Hirose (Japanese广 瀬 量 平, Ryohei Hirose; born July 17, 1930 in Hakodate, † 24 November 2008) was a Japanese composer.

Life

Hirose studied at the Art Academy in Tokyo and Akio Yashiro Tomojiro Ikenouchi. In 1963 he composed the music for a play by Yoshie Horta for traditional Japanese instruments. As a result, he has received numerous commissions for Japanese instruments and advocated particularly for the shakuhachi, a Japanese bamboo flute.

Since the 1970s, also works for European instruments, harp, celesta, piano, cello, viola, Perkussionnsinstrumente and others appeared, with Hirose Japanese and European music traditions combined with each other. His compositions for tape became known.

From 1977 to 1996 Hirose was a music professor at Kyoto University. In addition, he also taught at the Conservatory ( 1977-79 ) and the School of Art Tokyo ( 1991-98 ) and gave guest lectures at the Mozarteum in Salzburg (1999) and the Folkwang University in Essen ( 2003).
