Rypin

Rypin ( 1942-45 Rippin ) is a city in the Polish province of Kujawy and lies on the Rypienica about 50 kilometers east of Toruń. Rypin is the seat of powiat Rypiński and has about 16,500 inhabitants.

History

Rippin was mentioned in 1065 for the first time. In the 12th century it was the seat of a castellany. The award of the town charter was 1345th order 1409/1431, the city was destroyed by the Teutonic Order. 1793, Rypin by the Second Partition of Poland to Prussia. During the Napoleonic period it was incorporated in 1807 in the Duchy of Warsaw. After the Congress of Vienna in 1815 it became part of Congress Poland and came thus to the Russian Empire. After the First World War it became Polish again. After the German campaign in Poland Rypin ( Rippin ) was in the Second World War part of the Reichsgau Danzig-West Prussia. The county Rypin was dissolved in 1975, but re-established after the administrative reform in Poland in 1999.
