Ryszard Katus

Ryszard Katus ( born March 29, 1947 in Boska Wola ) is a former Polish athlete. The 1.84 m wide and its competition time 81 kg heavy Katus won the 1972 Olympic bronze medal in the decathlon.

At the European Championships 1971 in Helsinki Katus finished with 7417 points to 14th place. The following year, at the 1972 Olympics in Munich Katus was before the final 1500 - meter race in fourth place, after all, with 7984 points, he won the bronze medal behind Mykola Avilov ( world record ) and Leonid Lytwynenko, with the 4:05,9 advancing minutes from eighth to second place. In September 1973, the finale of the first European Cup the all-rounder was held in Bonn. In the individual competition, the Swede Lennart Hedmark won ahead of Frenchman Yves LeRoy. Katus was 7836 points with sixth place, but won together with Ryszard Skowronek and Tadeusz Janczenko the European Cup.

At the European Championships 1974 in Rome Katus reached 7920 points and finished fifth, but had over 200 points behind bronze. In the decathlon at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal Katus reached 7616 points, finishing in twelfth place.

Katus was 1974, 1975 and 1978 Polish champion. He started for Gwardia Warsaw.
