Rytterknægten

Rytterknægten is the highest mountain of Bornholm and the highest in Denmark, which is outside the mitteljütischen ridge Ejer Bjerge. It is 162 meters above sea level and is located approximately in the middle of the island in the forest area Almindingen. On its summit a tower, Kongeminde is called ( " monument to the king" ), which was erected in 1856 in honor of Frederik VII and his wife Luise Christine Danner. He was paid for with donations from the inhabitants of Bornholm.

The plaque of the tower contains the inscription ( German translation ): In memory of His Majesty King Frederik the Seventh highest presence on this island from 8 to August 16, 1851 accompanied by his wife built the Bornholm in untertänlicher love and devotion of this building in the year in 1855 and gave him the name King commemoration.

The height of the stone tower is 13 meters. In 1899, however, the trees of the surrounding forest had become so high that no view was possible. So you built a nine-meter high metal structure on the top. The viewing platform reaches 184 meters above sea level.
