Rschyschtschiw (Ukrainian Ржищів; Russian Ржищев / Rschischtschew ) is a city in the Ukraine in the Kiev Oblast. The city, which is under the Oblastverwaltung Oblasthauptstadt Kiev, located about 63 km south-east on the right bank of the Dnieper River and the mouth of Lehlytsch.

History

The foundation of the city is unknown and shrouded in legend, the first written record of 1151 lists already an attachment. 1506 the place was awarded with the Magdeburg Law by Sigismund of Luxembourg. Thanks to its location on the Dnieper the place had an important place in trade with Russia, this stagnated, however, from the mid-19th century. In 1960 the place the status of an urban-type settlement and since June 6, 1995 Rschyschtschiw has again the municipal law.
