S Bridge

S Bridge is the English name for a bridge over a body of water, the floor plan is curved S-shaped.

The S-shaped design is known inter alia from Ohio in the early 19th century. This type of construction was chosen to match the jumpers on narrow and winding rivers in uneven terrain. The bridges set perpendicularly on both sides and are in the middle merged so that the river can flow through the building vertically and the bridge represents a minimum barrier in the river. Some of these bridges are preserved along the U.S. Highway 40 in Ohio and partly classified as a National Historic Landmark. The Claysville S Bridge in Washington County ( Pennsylvania) is performed on the National Register of Historic Places.
