S -Bahn Copenhagen

S-Bahn train the latest ( fourth ) generation in København H (Copenhagen Central Station)

S -tog is the S -Bahn in Greater Copenhagen, Denmark. The S -tog system developed gradually since the commissioning of the first electric railway in Denmark in 1934 and now comprises seven lines. These operate a 170- kilometer-long, completely independent from the rest of regional and long-distance network route network with 84 stations. Operator was resolved on May 24, 2013 share company DSB S -tog, a 100 percent subsidiary of the Danish State Railways DSB.t

The Copenhagen S -Bahn, together with the Metro brunt support of public transport in the city of Copenhagen. Daily train about 1100 S -tog trains, which transport about 340,000 passengers, including about 4000 users with bike.

History

The name was selected through a survey of the Danish newspaper Politiken on 17 February 1934. That the German system (see S -Bahn ) inspired " S", however, does not stand for "fast " or "City " train, but has no fixed meaning.

The first route Klampenborg - Hellerup Vanløse - Frederiksberg was opened on April 3, 1934, and was also the first electric railway in the country ( except trams ). On 5 May 1934, the route from Hellerup to København H, which was extended from 1 November to Valby followed. Over the following decades, the network still up to the neighboring cities of Hillerød and Køge and the suburbs Farum, Ballerup Hoje Taastrup and has been extended.

2005, being the last line was opened without the trunk line to drive on the ring road from Hellerup to Ny Ellebjerg that allows north-south ride through the city center. The route consists of a previously unelektrifizierten, only by freight trains traffic bypass track and the existing S- Bahn line Hellerup Vanløse.

Route network

The lines of the S -tog system open up the west and the north of Greater Copenhagen. The main line runs from Valby over København H ( Central Station), Nørreport (crossing point with the Metro) and Østerport to Svanemøllen and Hellerup. There are the following lines:

  • A Farum - København H ( Central Station) - Hundige ( - Solrød beach )
  • B Holte - København H - Hoje Taastrup
  • Bx Østerport - København H - Hoje Taastrup
  • C Klampenborg - København H - Ballerup ( - Frederikssund )
  • E Hillerød - København H - Køge
  • F Hellerup - Ny Ellebjerg
  • H ( Farum - ) Østerport - København H - Frederikssund

The S- train network in Copenhagen was electrified as the first and only in the long time part of the Danish railway network. They used the DC system at 1.65 kV and regular contact line. Only in 1986 the first long-distance railway electrification was put into operation, but with 25 kV 50 Hz The platform height is different from the mainline. Thus, the S- Bahn network of regional and mainline rail network is completely separated. In central ranges (eg Klampenborg after Hellerup and on the whole original route through København H to Hoje Taastrup along ) run two S- Bahn tracks and two electrified mainline tracks in parallel. On some S-Bahn routes and goods deliveries are made that take place with catenary independent diesel locomotives. As part of a planned extension of the S-train to Roskilde was calculated with two-system S-Bahn trains; However, technical problems led to the abandonment of the project.

In 1989, the regional route was redesigned after Frederikssund to an S -Bahn; unlike the other lines it was single track and had road crossings, but was otherwise fully integrated in the regular timetable of the S- Bahn network. In 2000 she was converted into conventional double track S -Bahn standard.

Since 23 September 2007, a new schedule applies. The line number has been reduced. For now drive all the lines in 10 -minute intervals (except the lines Bx and H), the half-ring line F even in 5 -minute intervals. Previously was on all lines, a 20 -minute intervals. The base lines were lettered information (eg, A), the amplifier lines weekdays still got a " " ( eg A ) and lines that went mostly omitting some stops only at rush hour, received an "x" ( for example, Bx). The latter name has been preserved in the line Bx.

Despite the compression stroke the lines E, H and Bx are still operated as express lines. Do not stop at all stations and allow shorter travel times in the more remote suburbs of Copenhagen. Since the holding lines everywhere now drive all day in an exact 10 -minute intervals, the express lines can no longer quite so skip many stations as before, since the two tracks do not allow any overtaking partially.

In the night traffic on weekends the line A to Køge, the line is B to Hillerød and line C extended until Frederikssund, lines E and H accounts for the. This results on all routes an hourly service.
