S. M. H. Burney

Sayed Muzaffar Hussain Burney ( born August 14, 1923 in Bulandshahr, † February 7, 2014 in New Delhi ) was an Indian civil servant, politician and nonfiction author.

Biography

Burney was administrative officer of the Indian Administrative Service ( Orissa cadre ), where he rose to the post of Chief Secretary. After his retirement, he served as governor of the Indian states of Tripura, Manipur and Nagaland (1981-1984), Haryana (1984-1988), Himachal Pradesh ( 1987-1988). After that, he was from 1988 to 1992 as a member and chairman of the 4th and 5th Indian Minority Commission. From 1990 to 1995 he was Chancellor of the Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi.

Burney published as the author of several books, including Unity and Integrity of India ( 1986) and the biography of Muhammad Iqbal Iqbal: Poet- Patriot of India.
