S. Y. Lee

Shih- Ying Lee (Chinese李诗 颖; * 1922 in Beijing ) is an American inventor, engineer, physicist and well-known for its research and development in the field of hydrodynamics. Lee is also an entrepreneur and professor emeritus at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Life

Lee was in Beiping, now Beijing, born and raised. From 1936 he attended the local Tsinghua University where he graduated in 1940 his bachelor's degree in civil engineering. Lee then worked for two years as a research assistant in 1942 before he went to study in the United States. 1945 Lee received his PhD from MIT Doctor of Philosophy in English-speaking countries, the scientific doctoral degrees.

After his graduation Lee taught engineering at MIT and was eventually promoted from academic staff to full professor. After his retirement, he was eventually emeritus.

In 1985, Lee was chosen for its basic research on the stability of continuous valves, for innovative dynamic measurement technology and a successful entrepreneurial marketing his inventions member of the United States National Academy of Engineering (NAE ). Lee was also awarded many U.S. patents.

Lee is also an entrepreneur and founded or co-founded a number of companies that specialize in the areas of process control or hydrodynamic components. With his brother Yao Tzu Li, he founded the Setra Systems Inc. which he was chairman.
