Sa Pa

Sa Pa, (also: Sapa ) is the capital of the eponymous district in Vietnam's north-west frontier province of Lao Cai. It is an important market town in the area, with significance for the hill tribes Hmong, Red Dao and Tay resident in the area. The region is home to approximately 38,000 residents.

Geography

Sa Pa lies at about 1,600 meters above sea level in Lao Cai mountains. Here the Hoang Lien National Park is established. History

Sa Pa was probably first inhabited by people of the hill tribes of Hmong and Dao, which still settle in the area.
