Saab 340 AEW&C
The Erieye is a work based on the successful regional airliner Saab 340 AWACS system of the Swedish Air Force. The fitted on top of the fuselage with a high-resolution radar type 890 of the company Ericsson in the form of a nine -meter long rigid antenna machines can detect targets in the size of aircraft at distances of 350 kilometers; Cruise missiles can be detected in 150 kilometers away. Before the first flight of the machine on January 17, 1994, the radar system from 1990 on a Fairchild Metro III was tested.
The power supply for the highly complex electronics is ensured by a 60 kW gas turbine in the rear; the strong heat development of computer systems is compensated through a heat exchanger in the luggage compartment.
