Saab 9000

Saab 9000i CC ( 1985-1992 )

The Saab 9000 was a car model of the Swedish company Saab, which came on the market in spring 1985, it was sold (in the U.S., 1986) and by the end of 1998. The development started already in 1979.

Many parts of the body of the 9000 are identical with those of the models Fiat Croma, Lancia Thema and Alfa Romeo 164

While the Fiat and the Lancia Saab 9000 looked very similar to the Alfa Romeo had in common with these models only few visible body parts. Some parts of the four vehicle types were interchangeable. For example, fit doors of the Fiat Croma and Saab in 9000, but the door panels are different and otherwise secured.

Also absent from the Fiat - doors at the Saab models from 1986 standard side-impact protection, as it is another way of occupant safety went with Fiat for the Fiat Croma and Lancia Thema. Fiat designed for its models, especially from the facelift at Croma and from the second series of the theme a more stable passenger cell, while at Saab the original, jointly designed bodyshell has been continually reinforced by struts and "improvements " (such as the side impact protection bars in the doors ).

Various suspension parts ( camber plates, struts, etc.) are interchangeable, even the windshield of Croma, theme, and the 164's are the same of the Saab 9000. The drag coefficient is 0.32. The shape was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro.

In 9000 the ignition switch is in the dash next to the steering wheel and not on the shifter as with the Saab 99, 90, or 900 The suspension consisted of MacPherson struts in front with stabilizer bar and a beam axle with coil springs, anti-roll bar, trailing arms and Panhard rod.

In the first production year there was only one engine option - a water-cooled 4- cylinder petrol engine with turbocharger, 1985 cc, 16 valves and double overhead camshafts with an output of 129 kW (175 hp). To demonstrate the superiority of the Turbo concept, Saab went with some production cars of the 9000 series in 1986 to record-breaking run on the track of Talladega (USA / Alabama). The result after 100,000 km were 21 international records, including two world records. The fastest car completed the distance with an average speed of 213.299 km / h

The 9000 was the first Saab model with an onboard computer that displays the current consumption, average fuel consumption, range with the tank contents ( depending on version), vehicle voltage ( also depending on version) indicating the external temperature. Furthermore, defective headlights and open doors were displayed in a display. The Saab 9000 had a standard side-impact protection on all doors, belt tensioners in front, a hydraulic brake booster and later ABS.

The CC was 4667 mm long and 1764 mm wide. When CS were the dimensions of 4761 mm and 1778 mm. The amount was equal to 1420 mm.
