Saalkreis

The Saalkreis was a district in the south of Saxony- Anhalt. On 1 July 2007 it was merged with the district of Merseburg - Querfurt the new Saalekreis in the context of the district reform in Saxony- Anhalt. Neighboring counties were the counties Bernburg, Köthen and Bitterfeld in eastern Saxony district Delitzsch, Mansfeld in the south of the district Merseburg - Querfurt and west of the county land to the north. Geography

Through the territory of the former hall circuit flows beside the River Saale and the Salza. Other small rivers are the Laweke, dignity, Kabelske, Strengbach and Götsche. Administrative history

The Saalkreis 1790 included the following cities and towns:

Kingdom of Prussia

The term " Saalkreis " the possessions of the archbishopric of Magdeburg were already summarized in the area of ​​Halle, who belonged to the now secular Duchy of Magdeburg since 1680 to Brandenburg- Prussia. 1807, the Peace of Tilsit, Prussia also lost the Saalkreis to the French Empire, of which the Prussian territories were handed over to the middle Elbe to the newly founded Kingdom of Westphalia. German Empire

Since 1 July 1867, county belonged as part of the Kingdom of Prussia, the North German Confederation and from 1 January 1871 the German Reich.

Communal Constitution to 1945

The Saalkreis divided into municipalities, rural communities and - until its almost complete resolution - into independent estate districts. With the introduction of the Prussian municipality constitutional law of 15 December 1933, issued January 1, 1934 a uniform municipal constitution for all Prussian municipalities. The former municipalities rounders ( until 1911: Cönnern ) Löbejün and Wettin led now the designation city. With the introduction of the German church order of January 30, 1935 April 1, 1935, the leader principle was enforced at the community level. On February 15, 1937, the municipality Ammendorf received the designation awarded " city ". A new circle Constitution was not created; it still was the district regulations for the provinces of East and West Prussia, Brandenburg, Pomerania, Silesia and Saxony on 19 March 1881.
