Saanen goat

The Saanen goat is a breed of domestic goat that originated in the Swiss Saanen country and the Upper Simmental (Canton Bern ). Since 1890, there is a breed association for this breed in Switzerland. Even today it is the dominant breed of goats in Switzerland.

The short-haired, pure white Saanen goat is one of the dairy goat breeds. The average milk yield is about 750 kg that can be achieved without concentrate rations. The lactation period is 10 months.

Due to their excellent milk production was exported to many countries in order to cross with the domestic goat breeds. The White German Edelziege example, is the result of a scheduled finishing crossing of white goat's milk with Swiss Saanen goats.
