Saara is a district of the East Thuringian municipality Nobitz in Altenburger Land. Previously, the place was capital of the province Saara with an area of ​​42.73 km ² and a population of just under 3000.

Geography

Saara is located geologically in the Altenburg - Schmöllner Lößhügelland, a part of Leipzig lowlands. Adjacent sites are in the north Selleris, Gardschütz and Lehndorf the east Zehma, in the south Zürchau and Maltis (all community Nobitz ), and in the west of the district Schmöllner paper mill.

History

Saara was first mentioned in Bosauer monastery tithe register as Zarowe 1181-1214 and is probably caused by a slash and burn in Altsiedelland Sorbian settlement. In addition, a pleißenländisches noble family called in the 13th and 14th centuries, according to the site, whose most famous descendant of a certain Conrad von Zarowe as a witness in a bischoflich - Naumburgischen certificate is called from the year 1222.

Saara 1565 was affected by witch hunts. A man was caught in a witch trial.

On 1 January 1996 the municipality Saara was created by merger of municipalities:
