Sabal uresana is a palm tree whose natural habitat lies in the foothills of the Sierra Madre Occidental in northwestern Mexico. It was named after the small town of Ures, Sonora, Mexico. In Germany they are called by their home and related Palmettopalme ( Sabal palmetto ) and Sonoran Palmetto.

Features

The Sonoran Palmetto is a fast-growing, large palm tree. It grows up to 20 feet tall with a trunk diameter of up to 40 centimeters. Young palm trees have bluish-green, fan-shaped leaves, older specimens appear more green. The inflorescence hangs over arching and reaches the length of the leaves. The fruits are flattened, round to pear shaped and reach a diameter of 13-18 mm.

Habitat

Their natural habitat is the Sonoran desert in the foothills of the Sierra Madre Occidental in Mexico. The Sonoran Palmetto comes from sea level before up to a height of about 1500 meters. It is robust and thriving as a park tree in subtropical and warm temperate regions.
