The Sabueso Español (Spanish Hound ) is recognized by the FCI Spanish breed ( FCI group 6, section 1.2, Standard No. 204).

Origin and History

A dog of this type already existed in the Middle Ages, he was described by King Alphonso XI in the 14th century, other authors mentioned him. Due to the insulation on the Iberian Peninsula the breed is kept pure. Originally, there were two sizes, but the smaller Sabueso Lebrere considered extinct.

Description

With up to 57 cm a medium sized dog, white with orange, each color may predominate in dense, short fur, which is finely structured and snug. The ears are large, long, falling down. With soft texture, rectangular shape and rounded tip.

Use

Hunting dog, but also in the police service as a tracking dog. In handling it is not without problems, he developed occasional protective behavior, which resulted in Spain to its use as a guard dog.
