Saccoloma

Saccoloma is a genus of the class of rights ferns ( Polypodiopsida ). It is the only genus of the family Saccolomataceae.

Features

The rhizomes are short- creeping to erect, sometimes derived similarly, and have a Dictyostele. The petioles have an omega -shaped vascular bundles. The leaf blades are feathered to pinnatisect. The limbs hair, as in the closely related Dennstaedtiaceae missing. The nerves terminate free.

The sori are terminally to the nerves. The indusia are bags or cups. The spores are globose - tetrahedral, the surface has parallel, branched ribs.

The basic chromosome number is x = about 63

Dissemination

The genus is pantropical spreading and growing terrestrial.

System

The genus includes about 12 species and is probably monophyletic.
