Geography
The main town Sachsenbrunn lies on the upper reaches of the river Werra, whose source runs Werra and Saar immediately above, in the former district Schwarzenbrunn, have united to 491 m above sea level. The settlement is situated on the river Werra - Sophienau Quellauf, the district and the district Saargrund Schirnrod on the Saar.

History
Sachsenbrunn was created in 1950 from the merger of Saxony village and Schwarzenbrunn. In 1967, the districts Tossenthal and Weitefeld were added. The unit community was formed on 14 April 1994 as part of the municipal reform. Since 1 January 2012, the city ice rink is fulfilling community for Sachsenbrunn.
