Sächsische Verfassungsmedaille

The Saxon Constitutional Medal is an award of the Free State of Saxony. It is awarded to persons who have rendered outstanding services to the liberal democratic development of the Free State.

The award was instituted in 1997 to mark the fifth anniversary of the final vote on the Constitution of the Free State of Saxony and to commemorate the peaceful revolution in 1989 and is awarded annually by the President of the Saxon parliament.

The executed in silver medal shows on the front of the coat of arms of the Free State as well as the lettering "Saxon Constitution ", "For special services " and " 26 May 1997 ". The latter date commemorates the first-time award of the medal. The back is dedicated in the fall of 1989, the peaceful revolution. It shows five burning candles and the saying "We are the people".

From 1997 to 2013, the medal has been awarded to 124 people.
