Sacrococcygeal teratoma
The sacrococcygeal teratoma, a teratoma in the area of the coccyx, is the most common manifestation of germ cell tumors of the infant's age. It refers to a malformation tumor in the lower part of the fetal spine, which can outgrowth into the basin of the unborn.
Effects
In over 90 % of cases Steißbeinteratome are benign, however, tend to be malignant. Up until birth, they can already be child's head size. A subset of tumors is well supplied with blood, that in this way a severe fetal heart failure can occur up to the death of the unborn.
Therapy
Prenatally can be achieved by fetal surgery between the 20th to the 32nd week of pregnancy, a reduction in tumor blood flow and improve circulation situation. Where was no prenatal treatment, it is the earliest possible surgically removed after birth.
