Sada Thompson

Sada Thompson ( born September 27, 1929 in Des Moines, Iowa; † 4 May, 2011 Waterbury, Connecticut ) was an American actress.

Life

Her acting studies at the Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University) in Pittsburgh in 1949, she completed successfully. This was followed theatrical engagements to regional theaters. From 1954 she also appeared in film and television roles. Her debut on Broadway, she gave in 1955, where she could have great success until the mid- 1970s and several American theater awards won, including the 1972 Tony Award as Best Actress.

From 1976 to 1980 Sada Thompson was mainly busy with the shooting of the TV series An American Family, where they "Kate Lawrence ," the mother of the family played. In 1978 she won an Emmy for this role. The series was broadcast in Germany 1979 to 1981 with great success in the first program of the ARD, which Thompson also made known here. In addition to numerous film and television appearances Sada Thompson began playing theaters on Broadway after a long break in 1993.

Because of their many people perceived as pleasant and warm sounding voice, she was often committed in the United States as an off spokeswoman for documentary as well as audio books.

Sada Thompson was married to Donald Stewart since 1949. Her daughters Hillary Thompson and Victoria Thompson also work as actresses, daughter Liza Stewart is a costume designer.
