Saddle soap

Saddle soap is a cleaning agent for leather, especially for earlier saddle leather.

Originally natural soaps were used, which were boiled from vegetable oils or fats. Additives such as beeswax or carnauba wax to protect the leather. Today, the normally alkaline soap is not recommended as modern tanning processes take place in the acidic range. In addition, the remaining fatty acids soaps may lead to long-term fat feeding. Alternatively, therefore, long-chain alcohols or nonionic surfactants are used.

The saddle soap applied with a damp sponge on the leather. The foam formed by the soiled items are wiped. After that, they need to dry for a short time and may have to be rubbed dry afterwards. Then the occasional refresher is recommended with leather fat.
