Sadhbh

Sadhbh, also Saeve is a legendary figure from Celtic mythology of Ireland from the Finn mac Cumhaill Fionn cycle around.

Mythology

Sadhbh is regarded as the daughter of Bodb Derg from Síd Slievenamon, wife of Fionn mac Cumhaill and mother Oisíns. In the story of Oisíns birth Sadhbh appears the hunter Fionn as fleeing deer that can eventually catch up with him and follows him into his house. At night, the animal turned into his human form. Despite his love for her he leaves because of a war train and they will disappear. After a seven- year search, he finds on the slopes of the mountain Ben Bulban a boy, whom he recognizes as his son and Oisín ( " Hirschlein " ) calls. This told him what had happened: his mother was Sadhbh about a "black man," the Druid Fear Doirche, abducted against their will by magic. This only had power over them when Sadhbh was not in Fionn's castle Almhuin from which he had elicited in the form of her husband. Sadhbh had to stay forever in the power of the Druids, who had transformed back into a deer.

An equality with sadb ingen Chuin, daughter of Conn Cétchathachs is sometimes suspected, but is not verifiable.
