Saeco

Saeco is the name of an Italian manufacturer of household appliances, especially of equipment for coffee or espresso preparation. The headquarters is located in Gaggio Montano near Bologna. Since July 2009, the company is part of the Philips Group.

History

The company was founded in 1981 by Sergio Zappella and Arthur Schmed. The name Saeco forms from Sergio Arthur e compagnia. Schmed developed in 1985 the first fully automatic coffee machines and had patented among other things, removable brewing unit.

Was founded in 1987 by brothers Mark and Bernhard Bihler the Saeco GmbH in Germany, followed in 1991 Saeco Austria. The Saeco group grew into a leading company with a very strong international orientation approach. So there are now 16 subsidiaries in the United States, Latin America, Asia, Australia and Europe and hence a sales network in more than 60 countries.

1999 bought the Italian company Saeco, Gaggia, whose focus is still on the production of espresso machines.

Saeco 2004 was bought by the private equity firm PAI partners. The former value of the company stood at 746 million euros. After the sale, Saeco got into financial difficulties. The business volume declined from 526 million euros in the financial year 2005/2006 to 318 million euros in sales in the financial year 2008/2009. 2007, the payment of a debt-financed special dividend; the interest payments on the excessive debt financing, which was estimated at around 500 million euros, in 2008, however, could no longer be met. In June 2009, Saeco was eventually bought by the Dutch electronics group Philips for around 200 million euros.

On February 8, 2010 it was announced that the Philips offices in Munich ( Germany ), Lustenau ( Austria ) and Brunn am Gebirge ( Austria ) would close. Also affected by the closure were the areas of service and technology in Eigeltingen ( Germany ) on Lake Constance. Only the commercial area Vending & Professional will be in charge solely on the location Eigeltingen. From the closure of a total of approximately 200 employees in Germany and Austria are affected. Since May 2010, all activities of the sales and marketing organization of Philips Consumer Lifestyle division in Hamburg and Vienna are handled. The company's headquarters is located since the merger of the two companies still in Gaggio Montana.

Since September 2010, products from Saeco be brought under the brand name Philips Saeco on the market. But by mid-2013 they returned to a marketing back alone under the name of " Saeco ".

In June, the company Tchibo explains future work together with Saeco in the development and marketing of machinery for Tchibo Cafissimo system.

Product range

Particularly well known is the Saeco espresso machines and coffee machines. Other appliances such as irons, ironing systems and air conditioning units are now no longer sold. The company estimates it in the catalog 2008/2009 2007, more than 750,000 coffee machines were sold alone. Unlike its competitor Jura Electrical Appliances Saeco offers high-priced equipment is supplied fully automatic coffee machines in the lower price range.

In Germany the name Saeco is also known by the cycling: There Saeco sponsored by 2004 a successful professional team in which among others, the German cyclist Jörg Ludewig was driving.
