Saeed bin Maktoum bin Hasher Al Maktoum

Sheikh Saeed bin Maktoum (Arabic: سعيد بن مكتوم آل مكتوم, DMG Sa ʿ īd b Maktoum Āl Maktoum, . * 1878 in Dubai, † September 9, 1958 in Dubai) took over in November 1912, to a heyday of the pearling industry, after the death of his father Sheikh Buti bin Suhail domination, as Dubai has established itself as a leading transit port in the Persian Gulf. Sheikh Said reigned forty-six years until his death.

Sheikh Said was uncomplicated. His preference was one of the falconry, a traditional Arabian sport. His hunting ground was the outskirts of Dubai, where the Houbara ( Trappe ), its preferred prey, has its habitat.

He had two sons, Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, who became his successor as emir of Dubai, and Sheikh Khalifa. Both took over his preference of falconry and often accompanied him on his hunting expeditions.

Very often Sheikh Said retired to his date plantations in neighboring emirate of Ras al -Khaimah.

Early on, he expanded the port of Dubai to the main transhipment port of the Arabian peninsula and created a wide market offer to the souks, Dubai which brought some prosperity, but also envy. Through these measures, the collapse of the pearl trade in Dubai had little effect.

The population tripled during his reign, and from Dubai was a modern city. So he led, for example, in 1952 the electricity in Dubai. In his countrymen he was very popular and respected.
