Saeed Jaffrey

Saeed Jaffrey ( born January 8, 1929 in Malerkotla, Punjab ) is an Indian film actor, who appeared in numerous British film productions.

Life

Jaffrey began his career with the establishment of its own theater group " Unity Theatre " in New Delhi. He appeared there in pieces by Tennessee Williams, Christopher Fry, Oscar Wilde and Shakespeare. He studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and went on a Fulbright scholarship in the U.S. at the Catholic University of America, where he made ​​a second post-graduate degree in drama.

From 1951 to 1956 Jaffrey worked for All India Radio and from 1958 to 1960 he was with the Indian Tourist Office in the United States responsible for public relations.

His most important movies include The Man Who Would Be King ( 1975), Shatranj Ke Khilari (1977 ), the role of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in Gandhi (1982 ), A Passage to India ( 1965 BBC version and 1984 film) and My Beautiful Laundrette (1985). In the 80s and 90s, he appeared in many Bollywood films. For television, Jaffrey worked in the series Gangsters (1975-1978), The Jewel in the Crown (1984 ), Tandoori Nights ( Doordarshan, 1985-1987) and Little Napoleons (1994).
