Safmarine

Safmarine ( Safmarine Container Lines NV) is an international container shipping company with headquarters in Antwerp, Belgium.

Founding (1946 )

Safmarine was founded in 1946 by the U.S. ship owners and South African industrialist and general cargo vessels used possessed in addition to the dry cargo holds also on cooling holds.

Conversion to container and Porthole refrigerated container (1977 )

Began in 1977, container traffic between Europe and South Africa ( SAECS South -Africa Europe Container Service ) with seven ships. They had a carrying capacity of 50,000 dwt, connections for 900 reefer containers ( TEU PR ) and ran 23 knots. Besides Safmarine with the then largest of cooling capacity cooling container ships SA Helderberg, SA Sederberg, SA Winterberg, SA Waterberg and the German Afrika-Linien has been involved with the Transvaal in this service. All these ships were set up for porthole containers, since the reliability of the integral container not yet met the requirements of this service.

Acquisition by A. P. Møller- Mærsk (1999)

In 1996 Safmarine, the Belgian company CMBT. Since then, the company's headquarters in Antwerp. In 1999 Safmarine was developed by the Danish company AP Møller Group - Mærsk ( Maersk Line) übernommen.Heute applies the shipping company as a specialist in the north-south trade and Africa. Worldwide, Safmarine more than 1,200 people in over 130 countries.
