SAGA GIS

The System for Automated Geoscientific Analyses ( SAGA GIS) is an open source geographic information system. The SAGA project is being developed mainly in the Department of Geography at the University of Hamburg. Main developer is Olaf Conrad.

SAGA GIS has a wide range of functions. Originally SAGA GIS originated from a variety of smaller, specialized programs for different geoscientific questions, which were combined in one program. The focus of the program is on physical geography calculations and forms of representation, which are usually carried out on the basis of raster data.

In addition, SAGA dominated but also the loading, modifying and creating vector data and is therefore very well suited for dealing with thematic maps. SAGA dominated the representation of bar and pie charts.

Installation packages from SAGA GIS are provided for Linux and Windows. The source code is downloadable on the website of the project. The program is thus cross-platform usable. Running the program from a portable USB flash drive is possible.
