Sagamihara

Sagamihara (Japanese相 模 原 市, -shi ) is a city in Kanagawa Prefecture on Honshu, the main island of Japan. It is located inland on the Sagamihara plateau.

History

The present city of Sagamihara was founded on November 20, 1954 by incorporations.

Politics and Administration

Since April 1, 2010 Sagamihara is a " big city by government decree " ( Seirei shitei toshi ) and is divided into the three districts ( Ku ) Midori, Chūō and Minami.

Mayor of Sagamihara since the regional elections in 2007, a first-term Toshio Kayama, previously Deputy Mayor ( joyaku ) under his predecessor died in Isao Ogawa and longtime employee of the municipality. He was confirmed in office in 2011. The same elected City Council has regular 49 members ( Midori -ku: 12, Chūō -ku: 18, Minami -ku: 19), including 2011 22 non-party deputies, spread along with the party bound to multiple fractions. The strongest of these are the two DPJ -affiliated factions Shinsei club with 17 members and Minshu - Shin Mushozoku no Kai ( " Democrat [ s ] / new assembly of Independent " ) with twelve. Sagamihara is industrial in character, above all, chemical products, electronic equipment, canned food and metal goods are manufactured.
