Sagan Tosu

Sagan Tosu (Japaneseサガン 鳥栖) is a Japanese football club from Tosu in Saga Prefecture. The club plays in the J. League Division 1

The term " Sagan " has several meanings. In Japanese, it means, among other sandstone (砂岩). This is intended to reflect the club mentality, which is large and strong of many small parts. Also, the name in the resident dialect can also simply mean only Tosu, Saga. The third possibility is that the term is intended to represent a reference to the Italian Serie champions Juventus (Japanese Yuventosu ), but this was not confirmed by the club.

Since the establishment of the J. League Division 2 in 1999 Sagan Tosu played second rate until they succeeded in 2011 as the runner-up of promotion to the J. League Division 1.
