Sagay Marine Reserve

The Sagay Marine Reserve is located in the waters of Negros Occidental province in the Philippines and extends over an area of ​​325.52 km ². It was established on 14 April 2001, entry into force of Presidential Decree 9106 and is annexed to the NIPAS Act of 1992 as a marine reserve.

The Marine Reserve stretches along the north coast of the island of Negros in the Visayan Sea, along the shoreline of the city Sagay City. In the area of the marine reserve are more extensive coral reefs, the carbyne, Panal, Maca and the coral reefs that surround the island Molocaboc. On the coral reefs, the ocean currents were partially small sandbanks. The coral reefs are made up of 60 different species of hard and soft corals.

In the marine reserve are 30 km ² extensive seagrass beds, which are composed of 10 different species. There were five species of giant clams, 250 species of reef and deep sea fishing, five species of sea turtles and the endangered dugong are observed. In addition, 78 species of algae and seaweeds were found.

There are extensive mangrove forests extend over an area of 5 km ², of which 1 sq. km was replanted along the coast line. These are preceded by greater tidal flats.
